Outdoor Family Photography: Mother-Daughter Trail Adventure - Salida, Colorado

In April 2020, aka a million years ago, my partner Darin and I packed up our belongings and left our little blue cabin in the woods of New Hampshire and drove over 2,000 miles to Salida, Colorado. Darin started a new job as Field Operations Manager for the Colorado Trail Foundation (CTF) and I got a part time job while I researched how to start my photography business in Colorado. Moving during a global pandemic was a whirlwind to say the least.

Darin’s new boss was kind enough to put us in contact with volunteers and friends of the CTF in our area. One of those kind folks was Jo, a former board member and veterinarian who loved hiking. In June I reached out to see if she would like to do a family photoshoot and fortunately her adult daughter happened to be in town.

I took Jo up on her experienced recommendations for trails to explore. She suggested a few places and immediately had me at one called “Cathedral of Aspens.” At first light this particular aspen stand glows like a holy place. We had a grand old time hiking around and coming up with fun ideas for portraits.

I love the special bond between mother and daughter. Would others like to book a mother-daughter adventure session? Maybe it’s a special occasion or maybe you just missed each other after social distancing for so much of 2020. Email me if you’d like to plan a mother-daughter session of your own!
