4th Annual Moose Mountains RunAround and Kids Snowshoe Shuffle

Bright sunlight. 4 inches of fresh powder. Just over a mile of trail weaving through stunning hemlock-beech-oak-pine forest. An intrepid crowd of snowshoe racers made their way around the course loop twice at a local ski area in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. I was grateful for the extra chance to catch racers. It was a new challenge to capture a snowshoe race in the woods, but I had a lot of fun and the laps gave me time to improve my skills. It's trial by error with mostly error your first time shooting a race. :) What you end up with is a great teacher, though.
After the race, volunteers with my local land trust, Moose Mountains Regional Greenways, who helped organize the race, also set up a new wintery obstacle course for racers with young families, called the Kids Snowshoe Shuffle. It was so much fun that several kids did it twice! When they tried carrying a spoon of 'moose poop' (Jr. mints) around the cones, at the end, they got to eat any that didn't spill out.
