Summer Sunrise in an Aspen Grove in Salida, Colorado

Gosh, do I love a couple who invests in professional photos! There’s no higher honor in my book than repeat clients. I’m shooting this couple’s wedding in Salida next year and we already did a sunset session together for their engagement photos. While they loved their mountain sunset photos, these self-proclaimed morning people were scratching their heads on why they booked an evening session for their first shoot. Since they also loved the idea of my sunrise aspen adventure, they decided to book a second session.

We met at the trailhead at 5 a.m. and began our hike. After crossing a stream, the trail climbs uphill and offers epic views. Once we made it to the aspen groves, first light started piercing into the forest. They changed from casual hiking clothes into a couple different outfits. Then we had a blast playing in the golden light. Clouds rolled in just as we ventured into an open meadow, but it provided a perfectly soft filter for the light. On our way back we stopped on a ridge with views of Mount Ouray where they hiked for their first date. I love how that mountain has special meaning for these two.
