Mountain Sunset Adventure Engagement Session in Salida, Colorado

Kirsten and Mike are a local Salida couple who hiked Mount Ouray for their first date two years ago. Mike grew up here and Kirsten moved here more recently. They both share a passion for hiking and the outdoors. I am so grateful they’ve chosen me to be their wedding photographer for their Salida SteamPlant wedding in 2023.

For their engagement session, we wanted to do some hiking and get into nature. We decided to explore the Arkansas Hills in Salida, which provided gorgeous views of town, Mount Ouray, and the Collegiate Peaks.

Months ago, I found a ridge line that I knew would be perfect for a sunset mountain silhouette. I’m so glad Kirsten and Mike trusted me and came up with poses while I stood far away and made airplane landing gestures to them to help them get to the perfect spot.

They also asked to capture some photos downtown by the river and their wedding venue. We started downtown and then went up into in the hills for sunset. It was so fun to include their dog, Lyla. I love the faces she made and she definitely stole the show a few times. It was also super windy, and while all of us locals are ready for some calm days, the wind is fun to photograph! It creates *drama* and we love that. We had a blast!
