Family Adventure Photography: Snowy Shavano in Salida, Colorado

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Salida, Colorado beneath the gaze of beautiful Mount Shavano in the Sawatch Range, I met a sweet and fun loving family for a winter outdoor adventure session. We began by exploring a campsite under the shelter of pines in the afternoon light. The sun dipped behind the high peaks and the light reflected off clouds to create a warm glow. We climbed down to a waterfall with enchanting ice creations. I loved that this family wouldn’t stop throwing snowballs at each other. It made for some great candids! We found bare ground for a little tea time with cookies, a family tradition on every outdoor excursion. They even packed a mug for me and I got to enjoy a little earl grey. This isn’t a requirement for future shoots but it’s a damn good idea! Thank you, Sarah. :) Before we parted ways we got one more set of portraits with the evening light on Shavano and it was the cherry on top of an already great session and memory.
