Foggy Beach Family Adventure with a Dog-Loving Couple in Kittery, Maine

Although there’s no blue ocean in sight, I loved getting to capture the foggy Maine shore at this session. We rescheduled this shoot due to rain and got fog instead. It ended up working in our favor because it meant no one was at the beach on a Saturday evening in August. Plus, the lighting and the fog was gorgeous.

Naomi is a former colleague of mine and is one of the most caring and fun-loving people I know. I’m so grateful to have previously photographed Naomi and her now husband Eric on a winter adventure and for their New Hampshire farm wedding. Since getting married, they adopted their dog, Freya, and reached out about making new family portraits. Shortly before the session, Naomi revealed to me that they were expecting a baby next spring and I was delighted to capture some secret baby announcement shots for them, too (I just got their announcement/holiday card - it’s beautiful!).

I was thrilled to introduce Naomi and Eric to one of my favorite public beaches in my hometown just across the Piscataqua River. It’s a not-so-hidden gem these days, but in the spirit of Leave No Trace I won’t name this town-managed property. Dogs are required to be on a leash, but since I’m sharing photos of Freya running free, I wanted to let folks know that we decided to let her off at the very end of the session with no one in sight. It was so fun to see her get the “zoomies” and run around her mom and dad.

Thanks so much to Naomi and Eric for trusting me to capture your memories these last few years and I hope we get to have more family adventures in the future!
