Outdoor Family Photography: Exploring a Favorite Forest - New Hampshire

I am so grateful for this family photo session with Sarah, Pete, and their two children at their favorite forest. Sarah and Pete were my first freelance clients when I photographed a sweet New Hampshire wedding at their home! 5 years later, Sarah asked if I would come explore a local forest with them and we lucked out with a sunny late October afternoon.

When I arrived, I met Sarah and Pete’s expanded family of chickens and little humans. We hiked nearby and stopped for portraits in a few places, including a favorite tree and “the big log.” I loved tromping around and keeping up (sort of) with their 4-year-old.

At one point, Sarah exclaimed, “Emily! Do you know what this is?!” and pointed to a neon orange fungus on the forest floor. I’d seen something similar, but couldn’t identify it, so our gaggle of nature lovers proceeded to document the mushroom for later sleuthing on iNaturalist.
